Venue and date confirmed for Radical Independence Conference

Following our first organising meeting – held in early June in Glasgow and attended by around 100 people – the conference arrangements working group has been hard at work finalising a date and venue for the Radical Independence Conference. We’re now very happy to reveal that it will be taking place on Saturday 24 November, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow city centre.

The conference was launched earlier this year with a statement signed by dozens of campaigners, trade unionists, cultural figures and politicians, calling for the creation of an extra-parliamentary independence campaign that puts forward a radical, progressive vision of an independent Scotland. The conference itself will see hundreds of people from across Scotland come together to start discussing and organising for this campaign, and building for a Yes vote in the autumn 2014 referendum.

In a bid to make the day as open as possible, the conference will be based around workshops. Organisations and individuals are invited to submit abstracts giving a summary of their proposed workshop or speaker – the forms for which are available below. Future organising meetings will then discuss these applications and decide on the order of events at the conference. There will also be space at the conference for stalls for different organisations and causes, applications for which are also now open.

The Radical Independence Conference looks set to be a significant step on the road to the 2014 referendum, giving the opportunity for those across Scotland who are on the left, involved with environmental and social justice movements, trade unionists and everyone who supports a progressive vision of independence,  to come together and discuss the launch of a mass, radical campaign.

But your participation is key! We need your ideas, enthusiasm and skills to make the conference a reality. Details of the next organising meeting will be posted up soon, and in the meantime feel welcome to submit your ideas and workshop and stall applications to radicalindependence@gmail.com

This seems like a very worthy conference on Independence. Nice to see things developing out of the hands of politicians.
